Biography

Portrait of Etienne Saint-Amant

Etienne Saint-Amant is a Canadian artist and master of science specializing in technological art. He designs works described entirely or partially in mathematical language. He is a specialist, lecturer, and pioneer in this field. He is the author of formulas and equations that translate into various artistic composition tools. He devotes himself to conceptual research and the creation of contemporary works of art.

After several years dedicated to the development of mathematical arts, he presented his first solo exhibition, Aleph , in 2003, in Sherbrooke. Subsequently, solo and group exhibitions followed one another both on the Canadian and international scene. He won several grants, prizes, distinctions and commendations. He was one of Canada's representatives, in visual arts, at the Shanghai World Expo at the Canada Pavilion with his work Megaliths .

His work has been exhibited in several prestigious institutions, such as the Sherbrooke Museum of Fine Arts in 2021, the Baie-Saint-Paul Museum of Contemporary Art in 2022, and the Marius Barbeau Museum in 2020.

As a member of the Sherbrooke Connectivity Imaging Laboratory ( SCIL ), he creates a medical image of the brain's white matter network, which he modifies mathematically and structurally. His works Self-portrait I and Self-portrait II are the result of this approach.

In 2020, he released his first supercomputed work: an extremely detailed animation of the work Impossible Ideals made in collaboration with the Scientific Computing Center of the University of Sherbrooke .

He is also the co-founder and artistic director of the Club Art Nano , a club exploring art and nanotechnologies in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation (3IT) and the Nanotechnologies and Nanosystems Laboratory (LN2).

His work can be found in several public, institutional, and private collections. He is the principal artist for architectural integration projects; an area of expertise he particularly enjoys.

Etienne Saint-Amant is an artist from Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. His studio is currently located in Orford, in the Eastern Townships.
